GRANDMASTER ZENPO SHIMABUKURO

Zenpo Shimabukuro Sensei is a Hanshi 10th Dan who was born on October 11th, 1943 in Chatan of the Nakagami District in Okinawa. He began his karate training with his father, Zenryo Shimabukuro, who was a karate master and the founder of Shorin-ryu Seibukan karate.


Zenpo continued to study under his father until Zenryo's death in 1969. He was also a student of Uechi-ryū founder Uechi Kanbun, as well as Chotoku Kyan, who was another influential figure in the development of Okinawan karate. In 1962, Zenryo founded the Seibukan school and after his death, Zenpo took over and continued to teach the art. Zenpo is known for his fast and powerful techniques, which are all based on the principles of Shorin-ryu, a style of Okinawan karate. He is an active member of the All-Okinawan Karate-do Federation and continues to teach and promote karate, both in Okinawa and abroad.
